Cake Pops

Pop vskrd

My daughter was given a cake pop making machine for Christmas, so her and I had our first go with it today.

INGREDIENTS

For Cake:

100g caster sugar

100g white flour

Half teaspoon baking powder

Pinch of salt

50g butter

1 large egg

60ml milk

1 teaspoon vanilla sugar

For frosting/decoration:

Whatever you like really, we used some melted chocolate on some, some chocolate buttercream on others, some various sprinkles and some Cheerios!

METHOD:

Well, the cake recipe said to do the whole creaming the butter with the sugar etc etc method, but we just went for the throw-everything-in-a-bowl-and-use-an-electric-mixer method.

Heat your cake pop maker for 5 minutes, then put a tablespoon of the mixture into each of the cake pop wells (our cake pop maker makes 12 cake pops, and that cake mixture is enough for 24).

Cook them for 5 minutes. Remove them, put sticks in them, cool them. Then decorate them as desired.

The decorating turned out to be quite tricky because the sticks twist inside the cake pops while you’re trying to dip them in melted chocolate, or cover them with buttercream, and also, if you’re not careful, the stick can end up going all the way through. I’m thinking maybe next time we’ll try dipping the sticks in melted chocolate before pushing them into the cake pops to see if that sticks them in there better.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the process…

    • I know, some of the ideas in the book that came with the machine look amazing! We need to figure out how to get over the problem of them not staying firm on the stick while you’re decorating them though, it’s much trickier than I imagined! I guess it’s just a different skill to be learned.

  1. I got a cake pop maker for Christmas, too! Can’t wait to try it out. But after the holidays, the last thing I need are more treats right now, so I might have to hold off a bit. 🙂

    • Oh how funny, I don’t know if you saw my reply to your comment on someone else’s blog (I think Subtlekate’s) but my kids got a SodaStream for Christmas like you too! You didn’t get a popcorn maker too did you? If so, I’m REALLY freaked out. I changed my display name on my Gravatar this morning from Vanessa Chapman to Vanessa-Jane Chapman and after that it started putting my comments as needing moderation on some blogs as if I was a new commenter, so my SodaStream comment might not have been moderated yet!

  4. I missed this post the first time around, somehow. It’s a good recipe: I like that you did the all-in method and it was able to come out the same. 🙂 I have to pass this on to my aunt, who loves baking. (With my dad in hospital, she bakes a lot for the nurses and aides. They love her stuff, and I’m sure they’d love these, too!)
